A poor start off the grid for Fabrizio Giovanardi ruined VX Racing's chance of a podium in today's first Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Knockhill.
SEAT Sport held the first and second spots for the entire race, despite two safety car periods.
One of those was the result of VX Racing's Gavin Smith ending his race in the gravel. Tom Chilton spun and finished 12th.
Fabrizio Giovanardi: "It was just bad luck today. On the grid I put the car in first gear ... It said it was in first gear on the display but then when the lights went out the car was in neutral.
"I lost several places but managed to get back up to fourth at one point. I had a problem because there was so many wet patches on the circuit. I've shown I can overtake though, so it should be good for race two."
Tom Chilton: "I went over the top of the chicane and the car ran wide a little bit more than I thought it would. I couldn't see the outside of the corner, misjudged it and slipped on the curb.
"Before that I'd made my way up to eighth from tenth on the grid and would have got more I think. I ended up 12th so race two will be difficult but I got a good start in race one which is encouraging."
Race two gets underway at 13.40.
