Adderbury 19-year-old Will Bratt heads into the fourth race meeting of the 2007 Formula Renault UK season at Croft Circuit this weekend, 2nd/3rd June, confident of a successful set of results after another highly promising test at the North Yorkshire venue today.
The Apotex Scorpio Motorsport star, currently seventh overall in the driver standings, produced an outstanding performance during official testing at Croft a fortnight ago and backed it up today by setting the third fastest time during the 40-minute morning session with a lap of 1m 17.783 seconds (98.35mph).
In the 35-minute afternoon session, the University of Oxford scholar
chose to remain on the same tyres he had used during the morning and
even though a number of fellow front-runners elected to take new
rubber, Will’s quickest lap of 1m 17.795 seconds was still good enough
to place him an excellent fifth fastest on the timing screens.
Speaking after pre-event testing, the Oxon racer commented: “I was
pretty happy to be just a couple of 10ths of a second shy of the
outright pace during this morning’s session, the balance of the car
felt good and I’m very happy we’ve continued with the good form we
showed during the two-day test a couple of weeks ago.
“During the afternoon we stayed on the same rubber but still lapped
strongly compared to the pace-setters who used fresh tyres again. We’re
happy with the work we did today and looking forward to tomorrow. I’m
confident of some good results this weekend.”
Due to timetable restrictions qualifying for both of this weekend’s
races, rounds seven and eight of the campaign, will take place during a
single 20-minute session tomorrow, Saturday, 2nd June, at 10.20. Each
driver’s fastest lap will determine the grid for round seven with
everyone’s second quickest laps forming the starting order for round
eight.
The first race of the weekend will take place at 16.25 tomorrow while
the second encounter will follow at 14.00 on Sunday, 3rd June. Sunday’s
outing will benefit from live television coverage on digital satellite
and cable subscription channel Setanta Sports 1.
