Pole position belonged to Maximilian Goetz in today’s qualifying session for International Formula Master’s round five in Brno, despite strong opposition from the rest of the field.
The ISR driver dominated both practice sessions, claiming first place each time, before posting a superb qualifying lap of 1:52.643.
With track temperatures increasing throughout the day and only a slight
wind to hinder his progress, the 21-year-old claimed the fastest time
within three minutes of the session finishing.
IFM drivers on track at Brno today
Close competition came from Chris van der Drift and Pablo Sanchez Lopez
with both drivers starting tomorrow’s race in second and third position
respectively. Today’s top five drivers all qualified within one second
of each other, with five different teams and five driver nationality
featuring.
Maximilian Goetz, ISR “My first set of laps I had a lot of traffic and
couldn’t make a good lap which was disappointing. Then I came in to
change tyres but I had traffic again on my next set. I got it in the
end though and it was very close to van der Drift. Third weekend, third
pole though, I’m happy!”
Chris van der Drift, J.D. Motorsport “It was pretty close! After my
first set I got a bit of traffic but on the set after that I did a
really good lap and I thought for sure this is pole…then I saw second
on the board…Shame.”
Pablo Sanchez Lopez, Alan Racing “Third is respectable but we could
have had pole position, we definitely have the pace. The start will be
hard tomorrow, it’s a difficult track to pass on but third isn’t a bad
place to start from. For sure, it will be easier than Pau!”
