Top Start To Kentucky For Ambrose PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 19 June 2007
Marcos Ambrose has made a great start to proceedings for this weekend’s Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway with eighth place in both major practice sessions in Sparta, Kentucky today.

Ambrose also topped Rookie practice as well as setting the eighth fastest time in both opening and final practice. Ambrose was so pleased with today’s results that he went as far as saying that today was the best that the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion has performed all season.

It has been a big week for the Australian, who finished third in a NASCAR celebrity race in a Dirt Modified car at Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois on Thursday night.

Ambrose finished third behind Macon Speedway co-owners Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader in the 25-lap event, which also boasted the likes of Jason Leffler, Stephen Leicht, Mike Wallace, Steve Wallace, JJ Yeley, Kyle Busch, Casey Mears, Bobby Labonte and David Reutimann, as well as team owner Ray Evernham and Aaron Pierce.

Kentucky was the site of Ambrose’s first test with the Wood Brothers/JTG Racing team back in September 2005, the start of a relationship that has blossomed over the past two years.

Ambrose won his first NASCAR pole position at the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway on July 8 last year in only his tenth race in NASCAR in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

Qualifying and the Meijer 300 will be held tomorrow.

“We probably had the best car we’ve had all year today,” said Ambrose.

“The team definitely put a good car out there today and it showed.

“The goal now is to get a top five qualifying spot and to get the set-up right for the race.

“The race will be held at night so it’s going to be tough to get the car right for those conditions.

“We worked well today and had an eye on race set-up the entire day, because that is going to be very important.

“The dirt track event was a lot of fun on Thursday night. There was a lot of money given to charity and it’s a real buzz to get out there and do events like that with some of the best guys in the business and help some worthy causes.

“I’ll definitely be putting my hand up for similar things in the future. It was a blast and I have to thank Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace for letting me be a part of the event.”
