WPS/WOW Racing driver Jason Bargwanna has fond memories of Hidden Valley Raceway entering the Skycity Triple Crown, Round 6 of the V8 Supecar Championship Series in Darwin, Northern Territory this weekend.
Coming off a season-best performance at the last round of the championship at Eastern Creek in Sydney, Bargwanna is confident that WPS/WOW Racing can continue to strive forwards and improve the pace of the team’s cars.
Bargwanna was 15th overall for the round and scored points in all three races at Eastern Creek in the #10 WPS Racing Falcon, further outlining the improvement of the Gold Coast-based operation’s campaign in this year’s V8 Supercar Championship Series.
Last year at Hidden Valley Bargwanna brought the #10 WPS Racing Falcon
home in 10th overall for the round and it is a similar result that he
has in his sights for this weekend.
This year's round at Hidden Valley marks the tenth V8 Supercar event
for the popular Darwin venue and Bargwanna will be looking to emulate
the form of that first ‘top end’ round back in 1998 in this weekend’s
sixth round of the championship.
Bargwanna finished second overall at the first Hidden Valley V8
Supercar event, completing the round on equal points with Russell
Ingall only to lose the round victory on a count-back. Bargwanna is one
of several drivers to have competed in each of the nine previous V8
Supercar events at Hidden Valley and counts the round as one of his
favourites.
Max Wilson will be out to avenge a luckless round at Eastern Creek this
weekend at Hidden Valley. Wilson enjoyed improved speed in the #8 WOW
Racing Falcon at the last round but a mechanical problem at a pit stop
cost the Brazilian the chance of cementing a top 10 finish for the
round.
Wilson is also a fan of Darwin and the Hidden Valley circuit. With the
Northern Territory weather expected to be warm this weekend Wilson’s
high level of fitness will be crucial as drivers contend with high car
temperatures over the three races held.
WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY …
Jason Bargwanna – #10 WPS Racing Falcon
“Darwin is a circuit that I really enjoy and a place that suits my driving style,” said Bargwanna.
“I love the way that the entire town gets behind the event and you certainly know that the V8s are in town.
“I’ve always been competitive in Hidden Valley and I still remember the
first event there. I really would have liked to win that first round
and still remember how close we were.
“We had a top ten result there last season and enter this round off the back of our best result of the season at Eastern Creek.
“The priority is going to be making sure we make no mistakes and get
the job done, because I think if we can capitalise on our recent
improvement in car speed we are capable of really getting a very good
result.”
Max Wilson – #8 WOW Racing Falcon
“I really like Hidden Valley and always enjoy going up there for this event,” said Wilson.
“I like the circuit, the town, the people, the weather, so it always makes for a good weekend.
“The circuit should suit our cars. The most obvious feature of the
track is the long front straight and Turn One is always interesting,
especially at the start of each race.
“There are a couple of passing opportunities if you have your car
working well and the front straight is obviously a place where you can
move past cars.
“Hidden Valley turns on interesting racing and I think we can show some
good form this weekend and make it a good one for everyone in the team,
especially WOW Sight and Sound, as they have a strong presence in
Darwin.”
Craig Gore – Team Owner
“Darwin is one of everyone’s favourite events for the year and it’s
also a circuit that should provide us a good opportunity for an
excellent result,” said Gore.
“Bargs achieved our best result for the season at Eastern Creek and
both our cars are continually improving. Hidden Valley will be a chance
for us to continue to move forward and get points on the board.
“Max is keen to get back on top of things after some bad luck at the
last round. He’s very motivated to make this weekend his best round yet
and get the WOW car right up there in the top 10.”
