Saloon And Sports Cars Take Centre Stage |

Without a single seater in sight, the Mondello Park track will be taken over this weekend by a feast of Saloon and Sports car action. Sunday's nine race programme will be organised by the Carlow Car club with the Dunlop Supercars as the headline act.
Following two rounds of the championship at Mondello two weeks ago, the resurgent Supercar class has turned into a four way battle for the title. Championship leader Rod McGovern saw his previously comfortable points margin slashed as he picked up just five points from two races while second placed John Whelan scored twenty seven to close within two points.
Third and fourth placed David O'Brien and John Farrelly also made
substantial gains on reigning champ McGovern to move themselves back
into contention and with two races again scheduled for this weekend
anything could happen. So it could be all change for the top four again
by Sunday night.
The Supercar double header will be joined on the programme by two races
for Irelands most exotic sports car class, the Porsche Open series, and
a further double header for the motorcycle engined Global Lights. The
Porsches have made a big leap forward this year with the arrival of
some very modern GT3 variants of the 911, while the Global's have made
huge progress in terms of numbers with the biggest ever grid for an
Irish championship round entered for this weekend.
Single races for Fiat Punto's and Uno's, racing separately for the
first time this season, and Historic cars make up the remainder of the
compact programme which gets underway at 11:30 on Sunday morning
