Formula Renault UK Championship title contender Will Bratt concluded a full day of official testing at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit this afternoon very pleased with his top-six pace having run on used tyres for the entirety of the two sessions.
While the majority of his front-running rivals utilised the benefit of fresh rubber at some point during the test, Will concentrated on set-up work for the race meeting which will take place at the Kent venue in August and yet still lapped within two 10ths of a second of the outright pace with a best time of 44.960 seconds (95.97mph).
One of just six drivers to lap under the 45-second barrier, the Apotex
Scorpio Motorsport ace continued the impressive form which has been a
hallmark of his current campaign, the Adderbury racer having won three
of the last four Formula Renault UK races with two victories at Croft
in North Yorkshire and another at Oulton Park in Cheshire.
“We
didn’t use any new tyres at all today so to be in the top six on
combined times from the two sessions is good, I’m pretty happy with
that”, said Will, “We didn’t intend to go all out for truly quick times
today, our aim was to do as much set-up work as possible so to still be
right up there among the pace-setters is very pleasing.
“The
weather was quite changeable, it rained quite heavily at points and
then dried again quickly so it made things quite tricky. There was a
particularly big puddle at the bottom of Paddock Hill Bend this
afternoon which made things interesting on slick tyres! Having said
that, we didn’t have any problems and I’m pleased with how the day has
gone.”
During the slower afternoon session, the 19-year-old
University of Oxford scholar produced a best lap of 45.682 seconds
(94.45mph) to lap within four 10ths of a second of the pace.
There
are less than two weeks to wait until the 11th and 12th rounds of the
Formula Renault UK season which will be held at the home venue of
Apotex Scorpio, Donington Park National Circuit in Leicestershire, on
14th/15th July. Pre-event testing will take place on Thursday, 12th
July.
Before then, Will has some media duties to take care of
with a visit to the studios of BBC Radio Oxford 95.2 FM tomorrow,
Wednesday, 4th July. Afternoon show presenter Sybil Ruscoe will talk to
the Oxon teenager about his University education, his skills as a
talented guitarist and, of course, his highly successful motor racing
career.
