Metcalfe Fastest During Afternoon of Brands Test PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 03 July 2007
jeremy_metcalfeDouble race-winner Jeremy Metcalfe continued his excellent run of form at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit today, the BRDC Rising Star topping the times during the second of two sessions of official Formula Renault UK testing at the Kent venue.

The 19-year-old Loughborough University student, who originally hails from Fleet in Hampshire, produced a best lap of 45.262 seconds (95.33mph) to head the times during an afternoon session affected by changeable weather, heavy rainfall at times preventing teams and drivers from enjoying consistent conditions.

Jeremy was also very quick during the morning session, posting the second fastest time of 44.799 seconds (96.32mph) to end the three and half hour test run a mere five 100ths of a second shy of championship leader Dean Smith, even though his rival completed a full 20 laps more than the BillChaser-backed star.

Easily the quickest of the AKA Cobra drivers, three 10ths of a second faster than his closest team-mate, Jeremy is brimming with confidence and delighted with the fantastic work completed at Brands Hatch today which comes on the back of race victory during the most recent round of the championship at Oulton Park a little over a week ago.

Speaking at the conclusion of the test, Jeremy said: “It’s been a good day, we were very quick on old tyres and the only problem was the bad weather as it prevented anyone from getting into a proper rhythm really.

“I didn’t get as much as I could out of the new tyres when we used them but to be quickest in the afternoon and just a few 100ths of a second off the top of the times in the morning is a good performance, we’ve very pleased.”

He added: “I worked closely with Jacko (AKA chief engineer Paul Jackson) and we did some good set-up work for the race at Brands later in the year. Obviously we won the first round on the Indy Circuit at the start of the season and with the good work we’ve done today we’re confident we should be strong for the two races here in August.”

The next two races on the Formula Renault UK calendar will take place at Donington Park National Circuit in Leicestershire, the home venue for Coalville-based AKA Cobra and something of a home circuit for Loughborough-based Jeremy, just under two weeks from now on 14th/15th July. Pre-event testing will take place on Thursday, 12th July.
