Team VIP Petfoods' Bolger to Launch V8 Drifting Hat-Trick This Weekend PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 July 2007
bolgermallalaaction_medTeam VIP Petfoods’ daredevil drifter Robbie Bolger will round off a V8 drifting invasion hat-trick at next weekend’s round three of the Drift Australia Series at Eastern Creek when he introduces his latest Aussie V8 gift to the series.

After four and a half months of painstaking attention from Bolger, the new 940 horsepower Holden VE will be the first ever drift VE to hit an Australian race track.

“Basically everything that has been banned in V8 Supercars, this car has,” said Bolger.

“At approximately $260,000 to build, she has the best of the best and is even closer to a supercar than the Monaro!”

The Monaro Bolger speaks about is his beloved 800 horsepower, seven litre custom-built machine which has been wowing crowds for nearly two years, most recently by taking a history-making win at Mallala’s series’ round two.

Historical in that Bolger became the first interstater to take a round over local drivers since Winton’s round of 2005, the win further cemented Bolger’s status as a definitive force in the category following on from his 2006 series podium.

“The Monaro is just a monster, she has more power than a V8 Supercar with seven-litres of grunt and she just goes,” said Bolger.

“Until the VE, the Monaro was pretty much the most powerful drift car in the world, and certainly had the nous on the race track whether people believed V8s could drift or not.

“Mallala was a great send-off for the Monaro with taking the win over the locals, and I will be looking to continue that form through the VE’s debut this weekend at Eastern Creek, so those Nissan guys better watch-out!”

Before the Monaro Bolger steered a Holden CAPA Drift Ute, beginning his drifting journey aboard the bright yellow machine with success in the final Full Lock Drift Nationals event in 2004, securing 4th after only one day of practice aboard the six-litre fiend.

So it would seem Bolger loves his V8s, and with results like his he may just be able to force the Australian drifting fraternity to come around to love them too.

“Everyone seems to think that because the sport came from Japan, you can only drift Japanese cars, which is just wrong,” said Bolger.

“This is Australia, the Aussie V8 is the king of power and they can drift - just watch to see this proven for a third time this weekend!

“Anyone can build and drift a Japanese car, but its much more fun and challenging to build and drift a full-blooded Aussie V8.

“It is called Drift AUSTRALIA afterall, not Drift Japan!”

Following Bolger’s win aboard the Monaro at Mallala’s round two which catapulted him from 15th to 4th in the championship standings, only time will tell whether Bolger is able to put his VE to use in the same successful fashion, but for now it is looking promising.
