Bolger Has Home Track Victory In His Sights |

 Team VIP Petfoods’ daredevil drifter Robbie Bolger will have his eye on the prize this weekend as he prepares for a home track tilt at Queensland Raceway’s round four of the 2007 Drift Australia Series, in which he is currently placed fifth with only two rounds left to run.
After winning the Queensland round last year on his way to the 2006 series podium, the Gold Coast’s Bolger is looking to repeat history to upgrade his current place in the top five ahead of September’s final round at Oran Park.
As a local, Bolger will also have tradition on his side – with the past
two years seeing local competitors consistently beat out the visitors
for round victories – although Bolger saw this trend weakened in April
when he rode to victory at Mallala’s round two ahead of the resident
South Australians.
“To win here last year was fantastic, and anyone who has said it was a
fluke only has to look at the podiums we have achieved since then and
at our Mallala result to see the proof,” said Bolger.
“This weekend, I will be looking to go out there and make it two in a
row at home, and move my way up that championship ladder so everyone
better be ready.”
Bolger’s winning ambition will have no shortage of weapons available
ahead of his home track tilt, with not one but two custom built
drifting machines at his disposal.
The 849 horsepower Holden Monaro which took both last year’s Queensland
round and Mallala’s round win in April is a proven force in the
Australian drifting scene today whether others tend to agree with V8s
in the sport or not.
The other is Bolger’s newest project – the 986 horsepower Holden VE
Commodore, a relatively untested entity which while still in its
earliest development is holding a huge amount of potential under its
bonnet as the first drifting VE to hit Australian race tracks.
A final test day the Tuesday before the round will see Bolger decide
which of his beloved machines he will pilot at this most important
second last round of the series.
“The VE is just a powerful and intense machine, but it is still in its
infancy, and the Monaro is wonderful and so very reliable – it is a
fantastic car and has never let me down come race day,” said Bolger.
“With the end of the series so near and with so much at stake, I do not
want to jeopardise my championship chances and so need to be sure I am
a hundred percent comfortable with whichever choice I make, which is
why that decision won’t be made until testing of both cars is complete.”
Round four of the Toyo Drift Australia Series will kick off on Saturday the 11th of August at Queensland Raceway.
