Multiple Formula Renault UK race winner Will Bratt emerged from official testing at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire this afternoon delighted with the progress made by his Apotex Scorpio Motorsport team.
On a day where out-and-out rapid lap times weren’t the main consideration for driver or team, the 19-year-old Oxon sensation was still a top 10 runner in both of the 45-minute sessions and with a number of set-up variations tried and successfully tested, Will has high hopes for the championship’s return to Thruxton for the season finale in October.
During this morning’s outing, the Adderbury racer produced the 10th
quickest time for his Loughborough-based team with a lap of 1m 11.072
seconds (19.31mph) and then improved to eighth fastest in the afternoon
with a time of 1m 10.829 seconds (119.74mph) – less than half a second
shy of the outright pace.
“It’s been a good day, we worked our way through some set-up variations
and learned a lot which is obviously very pleasing and I think we can
be very positive for the last couple of races at Thruxton in October”,
commented Will.
“Although we were only 10th and eighth fastest in the morning and
afternoon sessions, the times weren’t all that important for us today
as our aim was to get some good set-up work completed and make sure we
used the time to try several changes. We’re actually quite excited
about all we’ve learned today, the team is feeling pretty confident.”
Currently an excellent third overall in the 2007 Formula Renault UK
driver standings, with a total of three race victories to his credit so
far this year, Will is 95 points adrift of the top of the table but
taking into consideration the category’s double ‘drop-score’ ruling,
which will come into play at the end of the season, he is just 59
points shy.
The Apotex Scorpio sensation’s next track outing is to take place at
Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent on Friday, 17th August, during
pre-event testing ahead of the 15th and 16th rounds of the season which
will be contested over the weekend 18th/19th August.
Provisional 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship Standings (after Rd14)
