Two top six performances during official Formula Renault UK testing at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire earlier today underlined local racer Jeremy Metcalfe’s consistency, but the 19-year-old is hoping for more when the championship battle resumes at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent next weekend, 18th/19th August.
The Fleet-based sensation, currently sixth overall in the title race and with two race wins to his credit, is aiming for a strong finish to the 2007 campaign over the six remaining encounters but knows he has to work incredibly hard with his AKA Cobra team to find the extra pace which will give him the necessary edge.
Back at his ‘home’ circuit for the first time since the third race
meeting of the season in May, Jeremy had hoped for a stronger
performance at Thruxton today and although his lap times most certainly
weren’t shabby, he wasn’t satisfied with the pace in relation to his
main rivals.
During the morning session the Loughborough University student posted a
best lap of 1m 10.804 seconds (119.77mph), four 10ths of a second shy
of the outright pace, with a similar performance replicated in the
afternoon courtesy of a best lap of 1m 10.791 seconds (119.81mph).
“Being in the top six for both sessions wasn’t too bad but we have
lacked pace today and that’s something we obviously need to look into
before the final two races of the year at Thruxton”, commented Jeremy.
“I’m not sure why we haven’t been more competitive today, I think I’ve
driven fairly well and the team has done a good job but we haven’t been
able to get the quick lap times we need. It’s a shame not to be further
up the timings here.
“We’re back at Brands Hatch Indy for the next two races so all focus
now is on that event and, hopefully, a return to the top step of the
podium. We obviously won there during the opening round of the season
so I’m confident we should have a good set-up.”
Pre-event testing at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit ahead of the 15th and
16th rounds of the season will take place a little over a week from now
on Friday, 17th August, with the race weekend itself held on Saturday,
18th August, and Sunday, 19th August.
