AIM Autosport - Watkins Glen qualifying PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 10 August 2007
AIM Autosport notched a second-consecutive top-five qualifying position in Daytona Prototype racing, taking fourth on the grid for the Friday evening Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series race at Watkins Glen International. The team qualified fifth for the series race in Montréal last week, then bettered it by one position at Watkins Glen on Thursday.

Mark Wilkins of Toronto qualified the No. 61 Lexus-powered Riley Mk XI fourth on the 21-car grid in one minute 7.761 seconds on the 2.45-mile New York road course. Although the pole-winning No. 99 Bob Stallings Racing car dominated the session, Wilkins' time was just 0.116 seconds behind second place. He will drive the first race stint on Friday, followed by Burt Frisselle of Lynchburg, Va.

"In Montréal we showed we can be competitive. We carried the momentum from Montréal and I had a lot of confidence coming in here," Wilkins said. "All credit goes to Burt for setting up the car in practice and to the crew – the car ran fantastic. We picked up a lot of time in qualifying and we were very close to being in the top two. Fourth is a great starting spot here because track position is so important. It's a great result for the team."
