Brands Race Winner Metcalfe Aiming For Repeat PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 10 August 2007
Fleet-based Formula Renault UK Championship front-runner Jeremy Metcalfe is aiming to return to winning ways at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit next weekend, 18th/19th August, the Kent venue where the AKA Cobra ace secured a superb opening round pole position and race victory at the start of the current season.

For the category’s second race visit of the year to the short 1.2-mile circuit, Jeremy is bidding to be in the battle for wins in both the 15th and 16th rounds of the campaign as he hopes to begin a consistent run of podium results on the back of the outstanding third place result he achieved at Snetterton a fortnight ago, from ninth on the grid.

Regarded as one of the foremost talents in Formula Renault UK, the BillChaser-backed sensation hasn’t had the luckiest of seasons but with two wins and a further brace of podiums under his belt he is still a competitive sixth overall in the driver standings.

The Hampshire 19-year-old, who in term time resides in Leicestershire where he studies at Loughborough University, has historically raced well at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit and is confident, if his car is working well, a repeat of his opening round win is very likely.

“I feel pretty good looking ahead to Brands”, said Jeremy, “The Indy Circuit is one we’ve been strong at before and obviously I took pole position and won there earlier in the year so we’re confident of another good showing.

“Qualifying is obviously very important on such a tight and short track and you’ve got to try and be on the front row really to challenge for a win. Our set-up at the start of the season at Brands was good so we should be able to be competitive again and I’d like to think we could back-up our Snetterton podium with a couple more next weekend.”

The pre-event test sessions at Brands Hatch will take place next Friday, 17th August, with round 15 qualifying set to follow on Saturday, 18th August, at 09.00 and round 16 qualifying expected to begin at 14.25. Both races are timetabled for Sunday, 19th August, and will get underway at 10.00 and 17.00.

Cable and digital satellite subscription channel Setanta Sports 1 is expected to feature live coverage of both Formula Renault UK races – please check listings for further details and confirmation.
