Hi-Tech Motorsports fleet of V8 Utes has expanded to six cars for round six of the Yokohama V8 Ute Racing series at Queensland Raceway this weekend with qualifying bringing mixed results for the large operation.
Leading championship contender Kerry Wade had a clutch sensor failure on the opening lap of qualifying and failed to post a lap. Subject to official permission (a formality) Wade will have to start his Fuchs/OBH Ford Falcon XR8 from the rear of the grid in tomorrow’s opening race.
Countering that, Hi-Tech Motorsports team mate Grant Johnson placed his Grove Juices/OBH Holden Commodore SS on the front row, narrowly outpoint by fellow Holden driver Gary Baxter.
Part timer Matt Moorhead was the second fastest the Hi-Tech Motorsport equip. After the odd outing in the past, Moorhead has taken over the second the Ian McAlister Fords for the remainder of the year and was elated to be in the top ten at eighth.
Scott Jennings continues to improve in the qualifying standings. With a race win at Wakefield Park earlier in the year under his belt, Jennings piloted the Legrand Ford Falcon to 14th.
Greg Willis is ongoing in his quest to come to grips with his Grove Juices Ford, posting good times but anxious to elevate his standings in the qualifying pecking order.
The sixth car in the John “Barrell” Pachos run operation would have been Alan Letcher who was
debuting a new (former Ute racer) Graham Hunt owned Ford. However it
was still enroute, fresh from being built at the Les Small workshop.
