Getting out early in qualifying was the secret of posting a credible time at round five of the Supaloc Australian Saloon Car Championship on a wet Phillip Island yesterday. Whilst it was wet through the first of the two outings that counted towards grid position, the second was far wetter with times as much as 15 seconds off session one.

Kris Walton continued his practice form and snared the premier spot in his Talbrace Ford Falcon AU with South Australia’s Steve Kwiatkowski the second fastest in his Westport Cars Ford ahead of fellow state residents, Supaloc Holden Commodore driver Kevin Weeks and series leader Bruce Heinrich’s Performance & Tuning Falcon.

The Woodstock Commodore of Victorian Paul Pennisi had its best ever qualifying performance with fifth ahead of Queensland Scott Nicolas (Oki Falcon). SA’s Matt Lovell (Cell-tic Batteries Falcon) was next from the the Sunstate Gas & Plumbing Falcon of Troy Hoey, Tim Rouse’s Commodore and Geoff Brown’s Falcon.

The second session saw water streaming across the circuit with several spinning, some even losing control on the main straight. Others did a single exploratory lap before parking their cars and several did not venture out at all.

The Australian Saloon Car Company (TASCCO) is a foundation member of the CAMS National Racing Championship, one of the five core categories (Production Cars, F3, Saloon Cars, Commodore Cup and GT/Porsche) in partnership with CAMS that now make up the Shannons Nationals.

The popular six cylinder Holden Commodore verse Ford Falcon category is supported by Supaloc Steel Building Systems, Pedders Suspension, Kumho Tyres, Xtreme Clutch, EMS Fuel Injection, Cebco Brakes and CSA Alloy Wheels.
