Sam Bird (20, Claygate), secured two sixth place finishes today at Silverstone, in what was essentially a damage limitation exercise. From the very beginning of the weekend, Sam was not “at one” with his car. “we suffered from snap oversteer in practice on Friday and although we made some changes to the set up, we continued to struggle for pace all weekend”, commented the MSA Race Elite driver.
Having qualified in 7th and 10th grid positions for the two races, Sam
was determined to make the best of the weekend, and in the first he
drove a solid race, making up one place in the process to finish 6th.
In the second race, he made an excellent start, moving up to 8th
position, after which there was much jostling for position amongst the
top ten runners. A good overtaking manoeuvre on Gonzalez then put him
up to 6th where he remained for the rest of the race.
“obviously I would have liked to come higher up the table” he said “but
it was a tough weekend and I’m just glad to get these points”.
During the weekend, Sam enjoyed some autograph signing sessions on
behalf of his main sponsor, BP Ultimate, and drove the safety car
around the track for VIP visitors.
