In what is possibly the best International Formula Master race of the season so far J.D. Motorsport’s Chris Van der Drift came out best of an eight-way battle for victory in Oschersleben, Germany this morning.
After a great start from seventh place on the grid, the Dutchman shortly found himself stuck behind race leader Luca Persiani (Scuderia Fama). Persiani defended brilliantly and it took Van der Drift until lap 19 to take the lead after which he pulled out a 14-second lead by the chequered flag. The result puts him second in the Drivers standings with four races left to go.
Marcello Puglisi (Promotorsport), starting from fifth place, finished the race in second ahead of Euronova Racing’s Pierre Ragues in third.
Despite loosing half of his rear wing after in incident into turn one, current Series leader Jerome D’Ambrosio (Cram Competition), managed to finish the 28-lap race in eighth place.
The race was overshadowed by a spectacular somersault in turn nine, when Iris Project’s Oliver Campos Hull lost control of his Formula S2000 and flipped mid-air. Campos Hull was lucky and walked away from it unhurt.
Chris Van der Drift, J.D. Motorsport
“You always push the same and see what you get out of it and today we got a win. I was quicker than Puglisi and he made a mistake coming into turn one, so I made a run on him coming down the straight and it worked out quite nicely. From then I just started to pull away.”
