Tom Onslow-Cole returns to racing
action in the ninth round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at
Knockhill next weekend looking to take another victory in the penultimate round
of the 30-round series. The 20
year-old BTCC newcomer has already taken victory at the Scottish track near
Dunfermline, having won there last year in
Renault Clios.
Now, with his maiden BTCC win and
an additional three podiums behind him, the Team RAC driver heads to the track
in confident mood after a stirring drive saw him climb from 17th to
sixth in the final round at Brands last weekend after a second-race clash
dropped him to the back of the grid for the third.
For the New Malden race ace,
Knockhill is a track he is relishing racing his BMW 320si on, as he has quickly
adapted to the more powerful rear-wheel-drive car, which has resulted in him
currently lying tenth place in the overall points
standings.
The demanding, tight and twisty
track is one that Tom enjoys racing on and both Tom and his BMW should be well
suited to the conditions that the event traditionally throws up.
“Last season was good for me at
Knockhill and it’s a circuit I enjoy racing at. I’m becoming more and more
comfortable with the Team RAC BMW now and am looking to put together three
consistent race performances for the team next weekend. After last weekend’s
strong finish in race three where I came back from 17th on the grid
to take sixth, I really feel we’re heading in the right direction and I go to
Knockhill really fired up for another good showing.
“The team has done a great job all
year and car has been improved at every race so I’m certain that at Knockhill
the car will be as strong as ever and I’m hopeful of taking another victory at
the track.”
The event kicks off with two 40
minute free practice sessions at 10.00 and 12.50 on Saturday morning (September
1) prior to official qualifying at 15.25.
The three races, again to be televised on ITV4 and ITV are scheduled to
start at 10.55, 13.10 and 15.20 on Sunday (September2).
