The team’s bid for the
National Class title suffered a big blow on a weekend that started
promisingly, with both Frankie Cheng and Hamad Al Fardan showing good speed
in the Free Practice Sessions.
Frankie then converted this
into one pole position and one second place on the grid for the two races
of the weekend, but unfortunately the final results turned out to be very
disappointing for the young Chinese driver.
He lost 2nd place on
the final lap of Race 1, when he was passed by team mate Al Fardan and Mike
Meadows. Race 2 was even worse, as a collision with Meadows on the opening
lap put both drivers out of the race.
Despite this disappointment,
the team can find some contentment in the fact that Al Fardan’s
consistent run of good results has put him only 5 points behind 3rd
place in the National Class standings. The Bahraini driver had two more
podium results this weekend, finishing 2nd and 3rd in
the two races.
Ricardo Teixeira’s
weekend did not go very well either, as he started from very low qualifying
positions for both races. The Angolan driver retired from the first race,
but put on a good performance on Race 2, finishing in 15th place
from 25th on the grid.
The British F3 International Series will be back on track at Croft
on September 08-09 for rounds 19 & 20 of the championship.
