Another exciting season of Top Doorslammer drag racing competition gets underway this weekend and the World’s fastest jeweller, Stuart Bishop, can’t wait to get back on-track at Western Sydney’s East Coast Nationals.
Coming off a strong rookie Group One season which culminated in three straight first round elimination finals to tail off the season, Bishop has been looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of his immaculately presented ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer.
Juggling a hectic work schedule in his capacity as CEO of Wallace Bishop Jewellers, there hasn’t been much time for testing but the quality of Bishop’s efforts during a full day last month has the entire Stuart Bishop Racing crew upbeat towards this weekend.
“We were able to put together an unofficial equal-best time of 6.07 seconds at 241 mile per hour,” said Bishop.
“Everyone associated with Stuart Bishop Racing realises we have the machinery and know-how available to us to give the competition a real shake up this season.
“Consistency will be the key. We were slow starters last season but came good towards the business end and were pushing the main guys on every pass.
“On the back end of a hole shot loss to Ben Bray at the Winternationals in June, we’ll aim up for a big showing in Sydney where we secured our best result last season.
“The Summernationals in February was our best competitive run last season of 4.18 seconds.
“We have solid data at our disposal and hope the few tweaks we made in testing can get us through to compete in the major eliminators.
“This season is all about consolidation in what I consider the best form of drag racing available in Australia.
“The Top Doorslammer category is full of World class competitors and I’m confident we can hold our own once again.”
The basis of testing on the Diamond Doorslammer consisted of pinpointing an ideal clutch set-up which the crew believes they have sorted in the lead up to Sydney.
An added bonus for Sydney fans is the fact the Wallace Bishop Jewellers Photographic competition will be running for the second time this season following the success of the inaugural venture last season.
Open to professional and amateur photographers, Bishop is encouraging everyone to get behind the concept and shoot images of his Camaro and the many other great drag racing vehicles on show every weekend throughout Australia.
“As I’ve always maintained, the ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer is more a racing show car and throughout the many Australian drag racing events held each year there are many other fine pieces of mechanical art that are showcased,” added Bishop.
“The Wallace Bishop Jewellers Photographic Competition will only continue to be successful with the over riding support of the fans and I hope everyone at WSID this weekend gets some great shots and submits through our website to go in the running to win some great cash and prizes.
“The Diamond Doorslammer was recently featured during the official launch of the 2008 Bartercard Miss Indy calendar and this also made for some great photo opportunities.
“There’ll be similar opportunities at Western Sydney this weekend so I’d encourage everyone to have their cameras at the ready!”
Drag racing fans young and old are encouraged to involve themselves in the second installment of the Wallace Bishop Jewellers National Photographic competition and be in the running to win some great cash and prizes.
Opportunities abound Australia-wide to shoot images at your local race track and forward them through the website www.stuartbishopracing.com.au to enter.
Simply by taking photos of all the drag racing action on and off the track, then submitting images into the competition, individuals will go in the running to win cash and prizes worth more than $20 000, courtesy of Wallace Bishop Jewellers.
The length and breadth of the country will play host to a vast array of quarter mile drag racing action, coordinated at the three major venues in Ipswich, Sydney and Perth, plus plenty of smaller hotspots in between.
