Fourth row slot for Onslow-Cole PDF Print E-mail

Tom Onslow-Cole will line up on the fourth row of the grid for the opening round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill tomorrow. The 20 year-old Team RAC driver posted the eighth quickest time in today’s 30 minutes qualifying session at the Scottish track in his WSR-run BMW 320si but remains confident of a strong podium finish over the course of the three races.
 
For the reigning Elf Renault Clio Cup Champion and BRDC Rising Star, Knockhill has proved successful for the BTCC newcomer, victory and second place last time around helping him on his way to last year’s Clio title.  Now he heads into tomorrow’s races looking for another podium finish to add to his current tally of four, which includes a race victory at Snetterton. 
 
“Today’s qualifying was definitely a character-building session and just highlighted the chink in my armour I guess. I’m struggling with qualifying at the moment but my team-mate Colin (Turkington) was very quick so we’ll have a look at his data and hopefully find some of it for us.  It’s been very tough to get to grips with the track in a rear-wheel-drive car after the front-wheel Clio and it’s not a track I know well, the least out of all of them.
 
“I’ve got Mike Jordan in front of me who’s just a little bit ahead of me in the Independents championship so it’ll be important to try and get ahead of him and stay there. Then overall I still want to work my way through, there’s pace in the car and pace in me, so we can race out there with the best of them and there’s no reason we shouldn’t be on for another podium!
 
The three races, again to be televised on ITV4 and ITV are scheduled to start at 10.55, 13.10 and 15.20 on Sunday (September2).
