Wilson replicates brother’s Champ Car win, Bridgman edges closer to title honours PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 03 September 2007
Stefan Wilson took victory in Round 16 of the Visma Formula Palmer Audi Championship ahead of Tim Bridgman this afternoon, just minutes after his brother Justin took his first win of the season in the American Champ Car series

Wilson’s win was vital as it keeps him in the fight for the championship, though main rival Tim Bridgman finished second to maintain his commanding points lead.

The Solvents with Safety-backed Wilson started from pole position and the only genuine threat came from fellow front row starter Alex Brundle, who challenged at the start of the race before crashing out on the second lap. Strategic use of boost in the middle section of the race gave Wilson a three second lead that was only under threat towards the end of the race when he was having problems finding third gear. “There’ll be a celebration at home tonight,” said Wilson after the race.

Talking after the race, Stefan and Justin’s father Keith was overjoyed for his two sons. He said: “I only watched snippets of Justin’s race on the Internet. I was too nervous! But the boys are really pleased for each other.”

Much like in Round 15 at Oulton Park, Tim Bridgman drove a tactical race that focused on points rather than glory, but admits that we would have had to work hard to catch Wilson. “I started with really low tyre pressures to give me a good car towards the end of the race and it nearly worked,” said Bridgman post-race.

Richard Kent topped off an excellent weekend with a third position, but was in reflective mood after crossing the line. “I’m slightly disappointed not have done a little better. We’ve been going really well all weekend.” Sheffield’s Richard Plant equalled his best-ever FPA result by finishing fourth. Plant had previously set fastest lap in Round 15 and his performance over the course of the weekend shows that he is one to watch out for in the future.

The FPA season finale takes place at Croft on 22nd and 23rd September where Tim Bridgman will be going head to with Stefan Wilson for Championship honours.
