Team VIP Petfoods heads west PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 03 September 2007
The last time Targa West saw Team VIP Petfoods’ rally master Tony Quinn and his sidekick Keith Wenn, they were standing on the third step of the Western Australian podium at the close of a tough 2006 event.

Coincidently one year on this weekend’s third running of Targa West will be the third rally adventure this year for the pair as they again chase a top three finish in the three day event. “I am really looking forward to strapping in for Targa West this weekend,” said Quinn.

“Targa events as a whole are right up there on my list of things I love to do, they arequinn_wenn_car just a joy to tackle as there is always something different going on with no shortage of variety!

“With a top three last year Keith and I would really like to push for another this year, and perhaps even climb a bit higher up the podium steps if things go our way this weekend.

“We work pretty well together so hopefully we can get in there and get it done – but either way it will be good fun – the car is in pretty good form after the Suncoast Classic where we finished fifth, so it will be nice to stretch its legs over the three days out West.”

There is no question the pair has the rallying pedigree for success – with thetony-and-keith-th partnership achieving multiple Targa wins over the years and more recently top five finishes in this year’s Targa Tasmania and the inaugural Suncoast Classic in Quinn’s home-state of Queensland.

Last year’s top three result saw the Team VIP Petfoods Porsche 911 Turbo 997 finish behind Ross Dunkerton and Alan Stean in their Mitsubishi EVO IX and Paul Blackie and Michael Stoneman in a Porsche 911 Turbo.

The 2007 QUIT Targa West will be held over September 6-9, kicking off with the Rally Prologue at the Perth Motorplex from 3.00pm to 5.30pm on Thursday September 6.

Following on from the Prologue, Friday’s first leg of competition will be held as the ‘Peter Brock Leg One’ in tribute to the motorsport great who tragically lost his life during last year’s first leg of proceedings.

Kicking off from Forrest Place, the three leg rally will wind through 33 special stages with the field of 78 cars covering a total of 1019.30 kilometres including 225.09 competitive kilometres over the three legs.

The field for the 2007 QUIT Targa West is made up of four categories – two touring and two competitive – with the Modern Competition category the largest with 42 entries including the Team VIP Petfoods entry and other notables such as Tony Longhurst with Jahmeil Taylor aboard Ray Vandersee’s self-designed Skelta Sports Car.
