The World’s fastest jeweller Stuart Bishop has elevated himself among
the elite of After completing his rookie season with three straight first round elimination finals appearances, Bishop went one better on his way to a maiden semi-final showdown in Sydney. Australia’s Top Doorslammer drag racing competitors with an International class series of runs at the recent AC Delco East Coast Nationals at Western Sydney International Dragway. Straight off the trailer the Stuart Bishop Racing crew was on a major high when Bishop blasted his way to a personal best 6.022 second pass, then backed that up with a first round defeat of Aaron Lynch recording a scintillating 6.19 second pass at 246.3mph (396kph). That speed increment proved the best of the entire meeting and the subsequent The only two drivers ahead of Bishop in the overall standings are Sydney winner John Zappia who snared two five second passes in Sydney and the ageless six-time Australian champion Victor Bray. “We’ve come a long way in one season and it was a great reward for everyone to finally net some decent points and prove to ourselves we are capable of mixing it with the best,” said Bishop. “We’ve always put down good numbers in testing and it’s just been a case of converting that into solid consistency in competition. “The belief has always been there and I have to thank the crew for putting together the first class race set-up we had for our debut run of the season in the ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer. “Looking forward, we have the Australian Nationals coming up back home at Willowbank in Queensland on September 14-16. “Coming off this sort of form, we’re confident of putting on a good show and improving on the little things that we hope can take us through to a first finals decider.” After qualifying fourth, Bishop won through over Lynch before striking trouble after half track in his semi-final against Zappia.
Moving out of the groove, Bishop made slight contact with the concrete barrier but was able to steady enough to come home with a 6.401 pass. The final between Zappia and Victor Bray was the quickest side-by-side pass ever recorded in Top Doorslammer history as Western Australian Zappia converted a 5.965 second effort to Bray’s 6.45 seconds. The Wallace Bishop Jewellers Photographic competition will be running for the second time this season following the success of the inaugural venture last season. Open to professional and amateur photographers the object is to shoot images of the immaculately presented ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer plus the many other great drag racing vehicles on show every weekend throughout Australia. Drag racing fans young and old are encouraged to involve themselves in the second instalment of the Wallace Bishop Jewellers National Photographic competition and be in the running to win some great cash and prizes. Opportunities abound Australia-wide to shoot images at your local race track and forward them through the website www.stuartbishopracing.com.au to enter. Simply by taking photos of all the drag racing action on and off the track, then submitting images into the competition, individuals will go in the running to win cash and prizes worth more than $20 000, courtesy of Wallace Bishop Jewellers. The length and breadth of the country will play host to a vast array of quarter mile drag racing action, coordinated at the three major venues in Ipswich, Sydney and Perth, plus plenty of smaller hotspots in between. ![]() AC Delco East Coast Nationals – Aug 31-Sept 1 Top Doorslammer Finals Field John Zappia 5.988 Victor Bray 6.01 Gary Phillips 6.015 Stuart Bishop 6.022 Aaron Lynch 6.082 Robin Judd 6.141 Deno Brijeski 6.202 Brett Stevens 6.227 Round One Eliminations Robin Judd (6.989) def Gary Phillips (10.981) Stuart Bishop (6.19) def Aaron Lynch (6.624) Victor Bray (6.114) def Deno Brijeski (13.768) John Zappia (6.031) def Brett Stevens (6.989) Semi Finals Victor Bray (6.232) def Robin Judd (6.356) John Zappia (6.006) def Stuart Bishop (6.401) Final John Zappia (5.965) def Victor Bray (6.045) Website: www.stuartbishopracing.com.au |
