Marcos Ambrose has his mind firmly focused on improvement and results
as he makes his 50th NASCAR start at Richmond International Raceway in
the Emerson Radio 250 in Richmond, Virginia this weekend.
Ambrose is aiming to continue to improve his short track form at the tough, 0.75-mile (1.207km) D-shaped oval, seeking to have a strong run in the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion. This weekend’s event also sees the end of a 15-week streak of events for Ambrose in the NASCAR Busch Series. After 15 consecutive races, which started back on May 26 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina, the NASCAR Busch Series will have a rare weekend off after Richmond before reconvening on September 22 in Dover. Ambrose sees weekly racing as one of his favourite aspects of
NASCAR, a sport he has embraced since moving from Australia to the
United States after two Australian V8 Supercar Championship victories.
The weekend off will give Ambrose and the #59 Kingsford team at Wood
Brothers/JTG Racing a chance to regroup and continue to develop and
fine tune their cars for the final seven races of the season.
Two years on from his debut at Martinsville Speedway in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 31-year-old Ambrose continues to rise up the ranks as he reaches his ‘half century’ in terms of NASCAR starts. Ambrose currently sits eighth in the NASCAR Busch Series and is second behind David Ragan in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings. Ambrose made 22 starts in last year’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, achieving a pole position and Kentucky and two third place finishes at Kansas and Nashville. Ambrose has run all 27 NASCAR Busch Series races this season, with four top 10 finishes and nine top 10 qualifying performances so far this year with a best result of sixth place at Dover in June. Ambrose finished 26th at Richmond in May this year in the #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion in the 11th race of the season. With more experience under his belt on this occasion, the driver from Launceston, Tasmania is keen to press for a strong finish on the tough Richmond oval. Marcos Ambrose – Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion ![]() “Richmond is a tough place and it is these short tracks that have been a little trickier for us this season,” said Ambrose. “We are going to go there and try our best and make sure we build on what we learned there in May. “Our short track program has been steadily improving. It’s the bigger and faster speedways that have seen the most progress from us, but I think we can run well at Richmond. “We will give it our best in Richmond, work at getting a good car and then drive a smart race and see what we can achieve. “I’m pushing hard for results but at the same time you have to be smart about it and make sure you are finishing races. “It’s a nice little milestone to reach 50 NASCAR races but my focus is on moving forward and getting results. I’ll save any celebrations until a race win.” 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Points Standings – After Race 27 1. Carl Edwards 3828 2. Kevin Harvick 3174 3. David Reutimann 3171 4. Jason Leffler 3042 5.
