V8 Supercars perform on one of the World’s most famous temporary street
circuits creates a mind blowing, entertainment experience.
The double billed feature racing program makes the Lexmark Indy 300 an event not to be missed.
In marking the official launch of the 2007 Lexmark Indy 300 at the
Circle on Cavill Piazza in Surfers Paradise this evening, Queensland
Minister for Local Government, Planning and Sport, The Honourable
Andrew Fraser MP was adamant this year’s event will again live up to
all expectations.
“Tonight is about celebrating the past 16 years of the Lexmark Indy 300 and its bright future,” Mr Fraser said.
“The four millionth spectator will walk through the gates this year
– testimony to Indy’s status as one of Queensland’s greatest sporting
drawcards.”
Mr Fraser said the Lexmark Indy 300 attracts more than 300,000 visitors annually to the Gold Coast from Australia and overseas.
“Like no other event in Queensland, the Lexmark Indy 300 adds more than $60 million to the economy each year,” he said.
“It has single handedly created a peak spring-time tourism period for the Gold Coast and is growing in stature.”
In acknowledging the attendance of Minister Fraser to assist in
officially launching this year’s event, Lexmark Indy 300 Chairman Terry
Mackenroth also extended a special welcome to Champ Car drivers Will
Power and English RuSPORT campaigner Justin Wilson.
V8 Supercar stars were also among the throng of special guests as
Mr Mackenroth outlined what will be a truly special occasion on October
18-21.
“It’s the enthusiasm and excitement shown by these super stars of
Champ Car and V8 Supercar that makes the Lexmark Indy 300 such a major
success for the Gold Coast, Queensland and Australia,” declared Mr
Mackenroth.
“The high vibe excitement of the Lexmark Indy 300 is something
appreciated by the competitors and fans alike and once again we can
guarantee a show like no other from October 18-21.
“Already ticket sales indicate this year’s event could very well
surpass all previous attendance records and that is the perfect reward
for the many officials, volunteers and contractors who contribute to
the over riding success of our annual showpiece.
“Construction of the Surfers Paradise street circuit is now at an
advanced stage, we have a fun-filled additional program of off-track
activities locked in and best of all we still have numerous ticketing
options to ensure a suitable entertainment package for everyone at this
year’s event.”
