19 year old Wiltshire
rider Tommy Bridewell plans to make his Bennetts British Superbike Championship comeback at the penultimate
round of the series at Donington Park on September 22nd/23rd.
After
sustaining injuries at the Mondello Park round in
June, the Etchilhampton near Devizes rider struggled at the subsequent
rounds at Knockhill and Oulton Park prior to the tragic accident which cost
the life of his elder brother Ollie at Mallory Park during practice on July
20th.
As a result of these
circumstances, the former runner up in the Virgin Mobile Cup and his team missed
the subsequent rounds at Croft and Cadwell Park but following a meeting with
Team NB last week, it was decided that Tommy would return to the track onboard
the Suzuki GSXR1000 that he has campaigned this season and on which he scored
top ten placings at both Silverstone and Snetterton earlier in the
season.
Commenting on his
return, Tommy said: "It's time to go racing again and I'm really fired up to
get out there and give it my best shot at Donington. It's been a tough old year
what with getting injured at Mondello and then losing Ollie at Mallory but
I met with the team last week and we agreed it was the right thing to do to
race again. I want to finish the season on a high note for everyone, not just
for myself but also for my family and Ollie, as well as everyone at Team NB and
it's fitting that we aim to see through what we started. Some good results will
also remind everyone that I'm in the shop window for next year
also!"
Practice takes place
at Donington Park on Friday 21st September with qualifying on Saturday 22nd
followed by two, twenty lap races on Sunday 23rd.
