The 42nd Australian Nationals drag racing showpiece to be contested
this weekend at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway has been included in
the National ANDRA Championship Drag Racing television schedule for
season 2007-08.
Showcased through a diverse range of viewing options later this year,
the Australian Nationals is appropriately being broadcast to a National
audience as the longest running drag racing event in the country.
For Willowbank Raceway the exact timing of programming will
strategically coincide with lead up activity towards the January 5 Top
Fuel/Top Alcohol showcase to usher in the New Year.
Already ANDRA Championship Drag Racing TV has enjoyed prime time
National weekend billing on the free-to-air Nine Network through
regular half hour highlights packages each Saturday from 11.30am.
While remaining program slots from Sydney’s recently completed AC
Delco East Coast Nationals will continue over coming weeks, action from
Willowbank takes centre stage from October 20 when the Top Fuel and Top
Bike Group One categories are presented.
In the weeks following, November 3 will see the intense battles in
Top Doorslammer and Top Alcohol played out for the viewing pleasure of
drag racing fans, while November 17 has the Pro Stock and Pro Stock
Motorcycle brackets claiming headline status.
Packaged into the television deal has been a flow-on through the
pay-for-view Fox Sports Network which will take a more comprehensive
look at the sport during one hour programming, the week after the
Channel Nine material has gone to air.
Reinforcing the overall value of the coverage, a soon to be
confirmed activity schedule will also be coordinated through the SBS
Network with similarly packaged content broadcast during regular
timeslots.
The annual Australian Nationals, which again features all six Group
One professional categories, kicks off a new season for Queensland drag
racing having been secured to the State in 2002 with the support of
Queensland Events Corporation under its Major Events portfolio.
Such support has allowed Willowbank Raceway to maintain its reputation as one of the premier tracks in Australia.
Willowbank officials will use the 42nd Australian Nationals as an
appropriate springboard towards a revamped 10-month program of drag
racing events.
