Live commentary of all the drag racing action from this weekend’s 42nd
Australian Nationals at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway is set to be
beamed to the World via the internet.
For the first time ever drag racing fans from all over the world
will be able to tune in and experience blow-by-blow accounts of all the
quarter mile duels being played out in Queensland, during the country’s
longest running drag racing event.
Willowbank Raceway’s expert commentary team will keep fans posted on
the latest goings on on-track and around the pits as this newest
technology looks to fully complement the existing log book of online
results.
“This fantastic system has been set up by Ipswich electronics
engineer, Steve Hellyer from SpeedFM and is set to add a whole new
dimension to Willowbank Raceway activities,” said Willowbank Raceway
General Manager Steve Bettes.
“We have been working on this program for some time now and are
excited to be able to bring it all together and provide fans from all
parts of the globe an even greater insight into our great sport.
“To gain access to SpeedFM fans will simply need to follow the link
direct from the Willowbank Raceway home page, create a login and get
set to hear the best drag racing action from the 42nd Australia
Nationals this weekend.
“Accessibility is the key thing with this custom made system
suiting all PC’s with the only other requirement an internet connection
to ensure your dose of adrenaline charged, Willowbank Raceway action.”
Action off the track will also be provided in a plentiful supply
during the course of the Australian Nationals with two National
sporting celebrities attending Saturday in support of the Stuart Bishop
Racing Top Doorslammer team.
Adding to the spectacle of another home-track assault of the SBR
team, they’ll also be hosting two of Stuart’s biggest supporters, Luke
Power and Jonathan Brown of the Brisbane Lions.
Both AFL players have been following Bishop’s progress in Top
Doorslammer with added interest and have made the Australian Nationals
a must on their off-season social itinerary.
Major involvement of drag racing fans is also encouraged this
weekend at Willowbank as the second instalment of the Wallace Bishop
Jewellers photographic competition, fully supported by Willowbank
Raceway, gives individuals an opportunity to share in more than $20 000
worth of cash and prizes.
Open to professional and amateur photographers, the object of the
competition is to shoot images of Bishop’s immaculately presented ’67
Camaro Diamond Doorslammer plus all the fuel charged drag racing action
during the course of the weekend.

The annual Australian Nationals, which again features all six Group
One professional categories, kicks off a new season for Queensland drag
racing having been secured to the State in 2002 with the support of
Queensland Events Corporation under its Major Events portfolio.
Such support has allowed Willowbank Raceway to maintain its reputation as one of the premier tracks in Australia.
Willowbank officials will use the 42nd Australian Nationals as an
appropriate springboard towards a revamped 10-month program of drag
racing events.
