International Formula Master (IFM) can now add Japan to its global grid following
confirmation that Japanese driver Hajime Sugino will take part in the Series’ last rounds at Monza in Italy.
Having tested the Formula S2000 for the first time this week at the official IFM
test in Monza, Sugino will rejoin the Series on 6 and 7 October with Euronova Racing.
Testing alongside Sugino was Japan Formula 3 driver Yehi Sekiguchi who set the
fourth fastest time of the day despite having never driven at Monza before. “The Formula S2000 was great to drive,” said the
19-year-old. “I really enjoyed taking part and what I have seen of
IFM so far. It is definitely an option I would like to consider for my
international career.”
Now
counting 18 driver nationalities, IFM has seen its talented young
drivers
represent several European countries as well as Brazil, Macau, Mexico,
Venezuela, Russia and now Japan, something which Series Director Mauro
Sipsz
is extremely proud of.
“It
gives me great pleasure to see a Japanese driver
join IFM,” said Sipsz. “As an international series, a true mixture of
nationalities is important and reaching such an extended global
stance was always a wish of mine for IFM. To see this realised in our
first season is a huge achievement and a great testament to the Series’
worldwide popularity.
“Japan has a lot of very talented drivers coming through
and for Sugino and Sekiguchi to choose IFM over and above the other Series or Championship options is a great compliment.”
IFM’s next rounds, 13 and 14, will take place at Brands
Hatch, United Kingdom on 22 and 23 September 2007.
