Hitech Junior to debut in FRenault Winterseries PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 17 September 2007

2007 British F3 Championship-winning team Hitech Racing will make its long-awaited Formula Renault racing debut, under the banner of Hitech Junior, when the Silverstone-based team contests the 2007 FRenault Winterseries.  The David Hayle-led team who last weekend clinched its first British F3 title with a tenth win of the year, has confirmed the line-up of former kart ace and Eurocup title-contender Jon Lancaster and South African Kart and FF Champion Marc Murray.

The Hitech Junior team has undergone an intensive test programme since it took delivery of two Formula Renault cars earlier this year and was immediately on the pace.  Now, with the British F3 season coming to a close and buoyed by superb testing performance of drivers including ITV’s F1 pundit Martin Brundle’s son Alex, Luciano Bachetta the early season Championship leader from FPA and the reigning British ICA Super One Kart Champion Ollie Millroy, the young team head into the mini-series in confident mood.

“We’re all really looking forward to what we hope will be a successful first outing for the Hitech Junior team,” said Hayle.  “We’ve spent a lot of time testing and refining our cars whilst testing with a variety of drivers on a variety of tracks and we’re confident that we can mix it with the rest of them.  In Jon and Marc we have two very talented drivers and I’m sure that when we get them into the car for the first official test at Donington on November 1st, they’ll be on the pace right from the off.

“We’ve had a great 2007 season with Marko (Asmer) winning the British F3 title; our aim is to continue the winning trend and take some of that success into the Winterseries and next season.”

Eighteen year-old Lancaster, from Leeds, moved into Formula Renault Eurocup this year following a successful career in British, European and World Karting and in only his first season in single-seater racing, took his first win last time out at Donington.  His results this season, puts him seventh in the points with still six races left and everything to play for.

Murray, aged 20 from Pretoria, competed in the South African Kart Championship wining both the Regional and National titles until he made his car racing debut there in 2005 before moving to the UK to contest the British Formula Ford Championship.  A limited spell in the FF Winterseries last season, including his first win, was followed by a full season this year and last time out he took three fourth place finishes at Croft with Jamun.

The four-round Formula Renault Winterseries will take place over two weekends, at Donington Park on November 3rd and Croft on November 10th and for Hitech Junior will be the precursor to a full-blown assault on either Renault Eurocup or the British Formula Renault Championship next season.
