Teamwork ensures championship second for Bishop PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 September 2007
Teamwork, commitment and an unwavering dedication to the job has ensured Stuartprepping_th.jpg Bishop Racing second position in the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship, thanks to back-to-back semi-finals appearances in the competitive drag racing category.

Competing at Willowbank Raceway’s 42nd Australian Nationals it was another classy performance by Stuart Bishop as he maintained consistent speed and a best ever second placed qualifying result in a fitting result for his tireless team.
The greatest advertisement and perfect indicator of how far SBR has come after laststu-burnout1_th.jpg year’s rookie Group One season was showcased in the efforts of every member of the crew to have Bishop race-ready for a close semi-final loss to eventual Nationals winner John Zappia.

A total clutch replacement was instigated and completed in under 45 minutes to further strengthen the resolve of the team to remain in the hunt for an eventual event title result.

While it wasn’t to be this weekend, there’s no doubt an outright victory for the World’s fastest jeweller isn’t too far away.

“Hats off to everyone involved in the team. We were on a very tight turnaround and the guys managed to cut and rebuild two clutches into a single working program, then do a complete re-install,” said Bishop.

“The Diamond Doorslammer was a weapon all weekend and in the semi-final our speed was still at 237mph (381.41 km/h) to capture a 6.08 second elapsed time.

“Zap (John Zappia) got us off the start line as I was struggling a bit with the position of the sun. I just didn’t react quick enough and we paid for it in the end.

“We’ve managed a best ever second position in qualifying and were only threestu-take-off_th.jpg hundredths of a second behind Benny Bray.

“This has all been great fun this weekend and it’s reassuring to have such a wonderful team backing me. We’ll look at a few things, analyse where we’re at and see what the future holds.

“Once again thanks to all the supporters of Stuart Bishop Racing and don’t forget to get your entries in for the Wallace Bishop Jewellers Photographic competition that’s again up and running.”

While slow to start during qualifying Bishop rattled off an impressive 6.06 second pass during Saturday’s third round and by the close of play on day two that mark was only marginally shy of Ben Bray’s 6.03 second top qualifier.

Bishop consistently had the power sticking in the top end of the track to ensure the immaculately presented ’67 Camaro remained a headliner among an elite group of Top Doorslammers this weekend.

His Saturday afternoon qualifying effort was also enough to be among Australia’sbam5_th.jpg fastest ever passes for the category at a mind blowing 246.31mph (269.31km) before Peter Kapiris bettered the mark to 246.58mph (396.83km/h) soon after.

Those two drivers were to have battled in the first round of Australian Nationals eliminations but Kapiris was unable to start his vehicle to hand the solo victory to Bishop.

Another highlight for Stuart Bishop Racing was Saturday’s attendance of two of the team’s major supporters, Jonathan Brown and Luke Power of the Brisbane Lions AFL team.

Both players mingled with race fans and had the thrill of watching Bishop’s scintillating qualifying pass from the startline, before enjoying a full round of Top Fuel qualifying to round out an exciting fuel charged weekend.

The Wallace Bishop Jewellers photographic competition gives individuals an opportunity to share in more than $20 000 worth of cash and prizes.

Open to professional and amateur photographers, the object of the competition is to shoot images of the immaculately presented ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer or any one of the other great drag racing vehicles on show every weekend throughout Australia.

Drag racing fans young and old are encouraged to participate in this unique incentive.

Opportunities abound Australia-wide to shoot images at your local race track and forward them through the website www.stuartbishopracing.com.au to enter.

Simply by taking photos of all the drag racing action on and off the track, then submitting images into the competition, individuals will go in the running to win cash and prizes worth more than $20 000, courtesy of Wallace Bishop Jewellers.

The length and breadth of the country will play host to a vast array of quarter mile drag racing action, coordinated at the three major venues in Ipswich, Sydney and Perth, plus plenty of smaller hotspots in between.
