GP2: RACE 2 – ISTANBUL, TURKEY
Great Britain’s Adam Carroll finished 3rd in today’s GP2 sprint race.
Despite charging for the lead from 2nd position for all of the 24 laps,
it was fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton who stole the position on the final
corner.
Starting from 3rd on the grid, Adam made a good start and after leader
Xandi Negrao went off it was left to the Northern Irish man to chase
the race leader Andre Zuber. A great race followed with a gap of less
than a second between the two.
But further back was Hamilton, who’s team ART won the constructers
title this weekend, pushing hard and carving his way through the
traffic. But disappointingly it was just seconds before the chequered
flag that Adam was passed on the final corner coming home to finish 3rd.
ADAM CARROLL: “It’s really good to get more points and a podium
although I am obviously disappointed to have lost 2nd place on the last
lap. “I could see Lewis in my mirrors in the distance but I never
thought for a minute that he could pass me from where he was. I
concentrated on braking and getting a good exit from the corner and he
still went past so that was a big surprise and pretty disappointing.
But it was a better weekend and I am very pleased to be back on the
podium after a few difficult weekends.”
