GP2: RACE 1 – ISTANBUL, TURKEY
Great Britain’s Adam Carroll finished 6th in the GP2 feature race in
the unbearable heat of Istanbul. It means the Racing Engineering driver
starts tomorrow’s sprint race from 3rd place on the grid.
With temperatures hitting highs of 40 degrees, driver fitness played a crucial part throughout the 34 laps.
The 23 year old from Portadown in Northern Ireland made a good start
from 6th place and passed fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton but after a great
first lap Hamilton was back in front and Carroll squeezed back into 8th.
After coming in from forth position to pit, Adam came back out into 8th
with a hard pushing Andre Zuber behind him. Despite less than half a
second between the two, Adam finished the race in 6th position.
Due to GP2’s reverse grid for the sprint race, it means he will start
tomorrow from 3rd. Adam Carroll: “Physically I could not have given any
more than I did today. I pushed as hard as I could and even towards the
end of the race when I was under pressure from Zuber, I didn’t make any
mistakes so in that respect I’m very pleased.
“The first lap was great and we were all in some big battles with me
passing Lewis, him passing me and me getting past again but then a
whole pack of us arrived in the corner at the same time and I lost out.
But all in all I am very happy with the way I drove today.”
