Irish Team to Showcase New Driver Line Up and Livery

The Leinster Trophy event at Mondello Park is shaping up to be one of the most exciting weekends of the season for the Kildare circuit with the announcement that A1 Team Ireland are set to make an appearance.

A1 Team Ireland is making a return to the circuit as part of its preparations for the second season of competition in the A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport™ which kicks off at Zandvoort in Holland on October 1st. The event will give Irish fans their only 2006 opportunity to see an A1GP car in action on home soil as well as offering a rare opportunity to see recent Grand Prix machinery compete on track.

A1 Team Ireland joins the ex-Formula One cars of the EuroBOSS series as the main attractions on Sunday's programme, with the team scheduled to give its 2006 colours their first public airing in the Republic of Ireland. The team’s colours and driver line-up will be unveiled on Friday 8th of September in Dublin before it travels to Mondello Park on Saturday afternoon in preparation for its starring role at Sunday's event.

The A1GP car will be on show in the pits during Sunday's lunch time pit lane walkabout, where it will occupy pride of place in Garage 1. Both of the teams’ drivers will be available to meet the public who will also be treated to a demonstration run by one of the drivers. A new range of A1 Team Ireland merchandise will also be available for the first time at the circuit during Sunday's event.

Speaking of the announcement of the return of A1 Team Ireland to Mondello, circuit managing director John Morris said, "We are delighted to welcome A1 Team Ireland back to Mondello following their successful first season in the championship. We would like to offer our support to the team and its drivers and we hope that they can build on their past success over the coming season."

Mark Gallagher of A1 Team Ireland said: “We are delighted to have to opportunity to give the car its first public run in the new team livery at Mondello Park. The Leinster Trophy Race meeting is one of the most famous events on the Irish motorsport calendar and last year we got a great reception when the car was driven by Sheik Maktoum. As we enter the second season of A1GP it is fitting we return to Mondello Park and have an Irish driver put on a show for the crowds. We would like to thank, the circuit owner, Martin Birrane, and the Leinster Motor Club for giving us this opportunity.”

Further details of the Leinster Trophy event are available on the Mondello Park web site and an exact timetable for the event will be issued over the coming week.
