Engel Finishes Year with a Pole

Maro Engel put his Carlin Motorsport Dallara on pole position for the final race of the 2007 season, three tenths ahead of Rodolfo Gonzalez, Sam Bird and Greg Mansell.  The German driver started the year with a pole position in the first race at Oulton Park and he will hope that the race will go the same way tomorrow.

An early red flag caused by a spinning Walter Grubmuller at Yentwood delayed the rest o fthe field but once the session got underway again it was Jonathan Kennard who set the pace.  Kennard was quickly demoted by Marko Asmer on the next lap but he was quickly demoted by Kennard, Engel and Mustonen in quick succession.

The very next lap Asmer popped to the top of the timing screens but was demoted in turn by Engel.  Hamad Al Fardan went off at Tarzan causing the yellow flags to fly, slowing the pace.

Once the yellows were withdrawn Kennard went quickest but 30 seconds later Engel was the first driver to post a 1minute 12 second lap time.  Engel was quickly followed by Rodolfo Gonzalez and Sam Bird as the chequered flag came out to end the 30-minute session.  Greg Mansell was 4th, with Mustonen and Kennard in 5th and 6th respectively.

Sergio Perez took another class pole ahead of T-Sport teammate Salman Al Khalifa and Romanian Mihai Marinescu.
