Ravage Racing and Dean Lillie will make a return to V8 Ute racing next weekend, in Round 6 of the 2006 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series at Queensland Raceway.

Ahead of a full campaign in 2007, Lillie recently acquired Gary Treloar’s Holden Ute and will race it in the remaining three rounds of the year with backing from Victorian gas conversion company LPGAS1.

The Melbournian previously raced in the popular Ute class in 2003, finishing fifth in the Great Aussie Ute Race at Bathurst and recording a round result of fourth at Phillip Island.

“I’m really looking forward to it all,” Lillie enthused. “I had a ball racing a Ute in 2003 and the series has gone forwards in leaps and bounds since then.

“It’s a good class to be a part of. They put on close, hard racing, have a great TV package on Channel 9, race at big events and have a lot of support and recognition from fans around the country.

“Driving a Ute again will be a lot of fun. They’ve got a couple of new things on since I last drove them - they’ve got brakes now.

“The class has grown a lot since I last raced in it at the end of 2003. It’s a lot more competitive, the whole field has really picked up a gear, so we aren’t expecting it to be easy.

“These three remaining rounds this year will be about getting out there, picking up experience and preparing for next year.”

Lillie will be doing double duty for the remainder of the 2006 season. He also races in the STS Australian Performance Car Championship, sitting fifth in the series standings aboard the LPGAS1 HSV GTS.

“It’s going to be a very busy couple of months for us,” he said. “From Queensland next weekend we’ve got five race meetings in under three months, ending with me driving both the Ute and the GTS at Eastern Creek in November.

“There’ll be a few sleepless nights, I’m sure, but it’ll be worth it.”

The car currently being painted in the same distinctive silver-and-blue LPGAS1 livery which adorns the HSV GTS Lillie drives in GTP.

“It is the calm before the storm at the moment,” Lillie, who will reprise the ‘Howzat’ nickname, said.

“The car will arrive from the panel shop on Monday, and we’re practicing in Queensland on Friday, so it’ll be a quick turnaround.

“We’ll have time to put the stickers it, give it a once over and put a setup on it. Then on Tuesday it’ll be time to head North.”

Ravage Racing thanks LPGAS1, Sprintgas and Ravage Racing Services for their support.
