Solihull rising star Adam Jones capped of his British GT season in fine
style at The Rockingham Speedway last weekend when he brought his Team
Modena Lambourghini Gallardo to it's first podium finish of the season
in Saturday's race.
Friday's practise session saw Adam finish top of the time sheets, with
the nimble Gallardo proving quicker than it's more powerfull rivals in
the wet conditions.Adam and teamate for this weekend Jason Templeman
gave the High Wycombe based team another first on Saturday morning, when
they Qualified in pole position for the 1st race of the weekend. In the
second qualifying session they finished in 3rd position for Sunday's
race.
At the start of the race Jason immediately jumped into the lead and
held on at the front despite his lack of mileage in the car untill lap
six when the much more experienced Alex Mortimer in the team RPM Dodge
Viper forced him into a small mistake.Towards the end of his stint in
the car Jason caught back up with the Viper and handed the car over to
Adam with less than 2 seconds defecit to the leader of the
race.Unfortunately a slow pit stop lost about 10 seconds for the
Gallardo, and after everybody had completed their stops Adam was down in
5th position.Undetered and with a very quick car beneath him Adam
quickly reduced the gap to the car's infront and despite a 8 lap battle
over 3rd position with the second RPM Viper which included a brush with
the concrete retaining wall the Team Modena driver eventually found a
way past and took his place on the podium for the teams and the
Lambourghini's first ever podium in the new look GT3 championship, only
six se! conds behind the winning Viper.
After a great day on Saturday lady luck was not with the team, and
a failed bearing in the gearbox during the early morning warm-up meant
that the team could not take part in Sunday's race.
"That was very dissapointing for the team and the drivers(not to
mention the spectators)" commented Adam "with the data we
had downloaded from yesterday's race and the opportunity for Jason to
spend more time behind the wheel I think a win was a realistic
possibility.Never the less we have to remember that the project only
started mid season and the team is very new.I am sure that next year
the Lambourghini will be a race winner, and I am looking forward to
being part of the team"
