BTCC Latest: Less than two weeks to go before title-decider PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 02 October 2007
There are now less than two weeks to go before the Thruxton circuit in Hampshire plays host to the final, title deciding rounds of Britain’s biggest motor racing series – the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

One of two drivers, Jason Plato or Fabrizio Giovanardi, will be crowned the new BTCC Drivers’ Champion in front of an anticipated huge race day crowd. Thruxton, the fastest track on the BTCC calendar, confirmed last month that all its grandstand seats for the event were sold out and the circuit has today said that general admission ticket sales are booming. Adult race day tickets cost just £20 if booked in advance on the Thruxton website www.barc.net or ticket hotline 01264 882200 – that’s a saving of 20 per cent. Admission for children aged 15 and under is FREE.

In addition to the final three BTCC rounds of 2007, fans will be able to meet the star drivers for autographs and give-aways when they are invited to cross the track for the hugely popular Pit Lane Walkabout session. Also included on the race bill are the culminating rounds of the supporting Porsche Carrera, Formula Renault, Renault Clio, SEAT Cupra and Ginetta series.

After more than a thousand miles of racing since the BTCC season started six months ago in April, SEAT superstar Plato will go into Thruxton’s final rounds just nine points ahead of Vauxhall’s Italian ace Giovanardi. But with a maximum of 52 points on offer from the three races, it is far from certain who will ultimately lift the Champion’s trophy – the most coveted piece of silverware in British motor sport.

Adding to the unpredictability is the fact that this year’s season finale will be one of the most intensely-fought on record, with a dozen or so drivers from the 26-strong grid capable of winning races or getting in among the title protagonists, SEAT and Vauxhall still battling to win the BTCC’s coveted Manufacturers’ and Teams’ titles, plus a four-way fight for Independents Drivers’ honours.
