The sixth round of the Ebanc Trade Commodore Cup national series at Phillip Island produced a maiden winner with Michael Graham taking the points overall from series leader Marcus Zukanovic and David Gittus.

Zukanovic who finished second in the V8 Utes he was also driving, it was a simple error that cost him the win – just as in the Utes.

However Graham was on top of the world in his Top Of The Town/Ebanc Trade VS Commodore. “Its about time,” he enthused. “I have to put this one down to Daniel Orr Motorsport because the car has been totally different to drive since they took over.”

Zukanovic was the class of race one as Ashley Cooper held off Graham before Cooper was excluded for not having a rev limiter. It became more dire for D’Agostin. In the next race he had a rear drive failure – thought to be a result of the first hit. There Graham stole the initial lead before Zukanovic went past. Gittus picked up third ahead of Jason Domaschenz debuting a new VS.

Graham also gained the start advantage in the third. Zukanovic tried to go the outside at turn two, only to slide off across the huge sand trap. He managed to get though but finished well down.

An almighty tussle ensued for the minors with Holdsworth finally winning out over the charging D’Agostin, Gittus, Nick Parker, Bates and Domaschenz. Zukanovic went off again later, trying to make up for lost time and finished out of the top ten.

Richert and Bates contacted at Honda putting the former out of contention while Cooper had mechanical trouble that stopped his second race challenge and ruled him out of the third.
