| WPS/WOW Racing makes tough start to Bathurst campaign |
|

| Thursday, 04 October 2007 | |
It is still early days for WPS/WOW Racing as the Gold Coast-based team
began it’s campaign at this year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at the
classic Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales today.
Lead drivers Max Wilson and Jason Bargwanna worked well together paired in the #8 WOW Racing Falcon, improving the car with each set-up change in the first section of practice. With 35 minutes remaining in the second part of practice Bargwanna reported an engine problem in the car, which is in it’s second race
meeting this weekend after debuting at Sandown last month.
The former Bathurst winner brought the WOW entry into the team garage and the car was unable to run for the remainder of the session, denying Wilson and Bargwanna the opportunity to set a faster lap time in the fastest part of the session, relegating the entry to 28th fastest. The duo is confident that things are headed in the right direction and that today’s timesheets are no reflection of the team’s true pace. Michael Caruso and Grant Denyer had a solid day of running in the #10 WPS Racing Falcon. Both are in only their second Bathurst and used today’s practice to get experience and track time around the challenging 6.213-kilometre circuit. With lap times not the priority the entry began the weekend with the 30th fastest time. Caruso was the fastest driver in second practice for the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series later this afternoon at Mount Panorama ahead of the second-tier V8 Supercar series holding its qualifying session and opening race tomorrow. Steven Johnson and Will Davison’s #17 Falcon was the fastest car in practice today, ahead of Rick Kelly and Garth Tander’s #1 Commodore and Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards’ #6 Falcon. The second practice session of the weekend will be held tomorrow before qualifying for the 2007 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is staged in the afternoon. WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY … Max Wilson – #8 WOW Racing Falcon ![]() “It’s the first day of the weekend and the WOW car worked well,” said Wilson. “In the second part of practice we had an engine problem and did not get any further track time. It’s unfortunate but I’m not worried and I am confident for tomorrow. “I did the early part of the session and we made some changes and got the car working better. Bargs then got in, felt comfortable right from the start and made some further changes and got it going even better. “Tomorrow we will work on getting the car good for Sunday, because strong race pace is our aim. Friday should be a better day.” Jason Bargwanna – #8 WOW Racing Falcon “We definitely improved the car while we were out on the circuit,” said Bargwanna. “Unfortunately we did not get much time in the second half of the session. “It has put us down on the timesheets but people forget how fast you go on Thursday very quickly. Times certainly were not our priority today – Sunday is our priority. “The new WOW car feels good. It’s different to my car but I felt comfortable quite early and worked with Max and the crew in getting it better and better. “I’m confident everything will be fixed and ready to go for tomorrow and then we can show what we have got.” Michael Caruso – #10 WPS Racing Falcon ![]() “Today it was all about getting comfortable in the car and doing a solid job,” said Caruso. “It was the first time I had driven the #10 WPS car and it felt good. It is still very early in the weekend. It feels a bit different to the WOW car I drove at Sandown so I’ve just had to get used to it and work with Grant on finding a set-up. “It’s always good to get out there on the first lap and familiarise yourself with the circuit and start to really focus on Grant Denyer – #10 WPS Racing Falcon ![]() “I got a decent amount of track time today and improved the lap times over the course of the session,” said Denyer. “We want to get a consistent race car that we can be comfortable in and do the job required. That was our goal today and we are happy with the direction we are headed in. “The first day around this place is always about reacquainting yourself with the mountain, where the bumps are, what kerbs to use and so on. “I think we can continue to improve tomorrow and put ourselves in a position to have a strong race car for Sunday.” Craig Gore – WPS/WOW Racing Team Owner “Bathurst is such a tough event and it throws up a lot of challenges,” said Gore. “Hopefully we have got our bad luck out of the way today and we have a clean run from now on. “Bargs and Max seem pretty pleased with how they went in the WOW car while it was on-track today. They focused on getting comfortable in the car and working on a race set-up and that is what’s most important at Bathurst. “Michael and Grant got to get some seat time and get a feel for the WPS car and the circuit. Their times kept improving and they will look at stepping it up for tomorrow.” RESULTS: Practice 1 1. S.Johnson/W.Davison 2:08.0740 2. R.Kelly.G.Tander 2:08.3987 3.
