The Autobahn Martin Donnelly Trophy Is Go! PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 August 2006
Mark Gallagher and Martin Donnelly are old mates.  “Martin, who was then just 14 years old was the first person ever to drive me round a race track and that track was Kirkistown. We were both hooked on the sport and he pursued a career as a driver and got to Formula One while I firstly went into journalism, covering Formula One from 1986 onwards for the Sunday Express and BBC Radio.

I covered Martin’s career-ending accident in September 1990 and from 1990 I worked with Eddie Jordan’s new F1 team, initially handling PR and later becoming Marketing Director. Martin and I have remained in touch throughout our careers and I am delighted to be able to bring our A1GP car over to Kirkistown for the Martin Donnelly Trophy.” Remembered the Belfast boy.
