Scorpio Motorsport’s Will Bratt made great strides during official testing at Silverstone National Circuit today, the Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed sensation ending the session just three 10ths of a second adrift of the top of the timesheets.
The 18-year-old, from Adderbury near Banbury, posted a quickest lap of 55.185 seconds (106.92mph) during the three-hour afternoon session to set the eighth fastest time of the day overall, an improvement of six 10ths of a second on his fastest lap from the morning.
Will’s excellent display at his ‘home’ circuit was captured by television cameras from the
Abingdon-based Central News South studios, local ITV1 broadcast
journalist Kirsten Hill also having the opportunity to experience
several laps of the 1.63-mile venue during the lunch-break as a
passenger alongside the Scorpio ace in a Subaru Impreza WR1.
With his success on the track more than replicated by outstanding
A-level exam results which have enabled him to take up a place to read
History at the University of Oxford’s Lincoln College, Will’s ability
to combine his racing and education at the highest level has ensured
the teenager is achieving a great deal of attention in the Oxon area.
“I’m pleased to have made it into the top eight”, said Will at the end
of the day, “We did struggle a little bit in the morning on our old
tyres but this afternoon things were much better and I’m fairly pleased
with our time on the whole.
“The good news is that my fastest lap wasn’t a one-off, we set a
consistent run of competitive lap times so I think we can be confident
ahead of the Silverstone races at the end of the season. The television
interview with Central News South was good fun too and I’d like to
thank them for coming along to Silverstone today.”
Formula Renault UK now has less than three weeks to wait until rounds
15 and 16 of the season at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit on
9th/10th September, the category acting as support to the British round
of the World Series by Renault. Official testing for the Formula
Renault UK runners will be held on Wednesday, 6th September.
Following the Donington races, just two meetings will remain in the
2006 season with the first taking place at Brands Hatch in Kent at the
end of September and the season finale to be staged at Silverstone on
14th/15th October.
