Early shower for Ambrose in Charlotte PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 13 October 2007
Marcos Ambrose has had an ‘early shower’ in the Dollar General 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway after a tyre deflation sent him into the wall early in the race in Charlotte, North Carolina today.

Ambrose qualified the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion in a strong 18th position and made a steady start to the 200 lap event. His car developed a bad push, or understeer, until on lap 27 the front right tyre went down, sending the Australian up into the wall.

The damage was enough to end Ambrose’s race. He was classified in 40th position out of the 43-car field and earned 43 championship points.

Ambrose now drops to ninth in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings and remains second in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings.

Jeff Burton won today’s Dollar General 300 ahead of Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Ambrose and the NASCAR Busch Series drivers and teams have another off-week coming up before a run of four consecutive races to end the 2007 season, starting with the Sam’s Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park.

“We just had a tyre go down there and that was it,” said Ambrose

“I’m not sure if we were losing pressure or we ran over some debree, because we were running really tight there.

“We really wanted to have a strong finish to this year and this is not the way to do it. At the last two races we’ve had tyres go down leading to contact with the wall.

“We had a good qualifying run and we were confident we had a top 10 car. Now we’ve got to regroup and we have another off-week now to think about things and give it a strong effort for the last four races.

“We have a strong car and a great team and I’m feeling more and more comfortable in the car. We’ll put this behind us and give it everything to have a strong finish to the season in these last four races.”
