Round Seven Qualifying - Mallala, South Australia - October 13-14
In a field dominated by Ford
Falcons, Kevin Weeks driving a Supaloc backed Holden Commodore has secured pole
position for race one (of three) at round seven of the Supaloc Australian
Saloon Car Championship at Mallala
Motorsport Park
to held later today.
Weeks set the best lap time of 1
minute 19.4429 seconds to eclipse series front runner and four times champion
Bruce Heinrich’s Pacemaker Headers Ford (less than a tenth of a second
slower) from the premier position. Both set their sub-lap record times in the
first of two qualifying sessions when the track was at its optimum and before
oil was deposited on a large section of the circuit by another category.
“The window of opportunity
was lost,” recounted Heinrich who didn’t even go out. Weeks did
just a couple of exploratory laps only while none of the other top runners
improved their times. South Australians filled the five fastest spots on the
time sheets with Cell-tic Batteries’ Matt Lovell third ahead of Westport
Cars’ Steve Kwiatkowski and Extreme Clutch’s Brad Fox – all
in Fords.
The best placed interstater was New South Wales’
Peter Dane in yet another Ford from Queenslanders Kris Walton and Scott
Nicholas, David Clark (SA) and Troy Hoey (Qld). The second fastest Holden was
the SA Commodore of Shawn Jamieson in 12th spot behind Brenton Burr
(SA) but it would be scratched due to engine failure.
The Australian Saloon Car Company (TASCCO) is a foundation
member of the CAMS National Racing Championship, one of the five core
categories (Production Cars, F3, Saloon Cars, Commodore Cup and GT/Porsche) in
partnership with CAMS that now make up the Shannons
Nationals.
The popular six cylinder Holden Commodore verse Ford Falcon
category is supported by Supaloc Steel Building Systems, Pedders Suspension,
Kumho Tyres, Xtreme Clutch, EMS Fuel Injection, Cebco Brakes and CSA Alloy
Wheels.
