Larbre Competition head to Brazil this week looking to end the 2007 Le Mans Series season in style with a strong result at the Mil Milhas at Interlagos.
 The team will enter one of their Aston Martin DBR9s into the eleven-hour, 1000-mile race with Brazilian Fernando Rees and Frenchman Roland Berville joining the team’s Le Mans Series regulars Gregor Fisken and Steve Zacchia. Team Principal Jack Leconte admitted his team are looking forward to the race and to experiencing the testing Interlagos circuit for the first time. “We’ve never competed at Interlagos before, so it’s a challenge that the whole team are looking forward to. We haven’t made any changes to the car but we feel that we will run strongly at the race. “We are one of the few GT teams to be present at this new event organised by the ACO and that’s a shame for the championship. Unfortunately we had to treat this race as a separate event in order to raise the budget to attend.” Former World Series by Renault racer and SudAm F3 race winner, Fernando Rees is set for his sportscar debut and is excited about making his racing return following 18 months out after a career-threatening accident which saw him break two vertebrae in his back. “I’ve been waiting for this opportunity since the accident happened and I cannot wait to be back racing again. I know Interlagos really well and whilst the anti-clockwise layout and length of the race will make it very physically demanding for all the drivers, it’s a great circuit with lots of overtaking places and that should make for a fantastic race. Steve Zacchia, fresh from taking a win in the Touring Cup class of the VdeV Championship’s 12-hour race at Magny Cours, admitted that the addition of Fernando Rees to the team’s driving strength should be beneficial. “Fernando has good circuit knowledge of Interlagos and hopefully he’ll be able to pass on a few tips to the rest of us. I’ve never raced there before, but I know it’s a fantastic, challenging circuit and I’m sure it will be a tough race.” Gregor Fisken revealed he was eager to end his season on a high after a first year of GT1 racing in the Le Mans Series. “The Mil Milhas will be a special way to bring the season to a close. It’s a mythical race held on a circuit with a history and prestige. Steve and I have enjoyed a fantastic relationship this year and I thoroughly enjoyed racing alongside Roland at Le Mans. Fernando is also a welcome addition to the team and we hope his circuit know-how will help us. This is my ever first race in South America and I cannot wait.” Roland Berville, who raced at the Le Mans 24 Hours with Larbre this year, revealed he had no hesitations about making the trip to South America. “When Jack discussed this opportunity with me I said yes immediately. The Mil Milhas is a prestigious event and I’m looking forward to being part of it. The most testing aspect during such a long race will be the heat.” |
