Reigning Supaloc Australian Production Car Champion Bruce Heinrich from South Australia, has a third title firmly in his sights after posting yet another pole position at Phillip Island today. In the second of two sessions, he drove his Ford Falcon AU around the fast circuit in a sub lap record time of 1 min 9469 seconds.

“Yes it’s a lot faster than the last time we were here in the old model Falcon EA last year,” he said. “There is another half second in this car at least if the handling was right, but I am happy to be on the front row and I am not going to change it”

Queenslander Kris Walton came frightening close to snaring away the top spot. At one stage there was just 0.0002 seconds between the flying Fords before Heinrich pulled out a new benchmark. Try as he might, Walton hovered around his second session best, but couldn’t make up the 1.7 second deficit.

The champion from 2004, Clint Harvey, made a blue oval trifecta, slotting his Falcon on the inside of row two, after being third fastest in both sessions. Best of the Holden Commodores was Queenslander Jake Camilleri in his VT who was scheduled to start out of position four but he had problems and would be unlikely to make the first grid.

John Goodacre’s new VT which turned its first wheel yesterday, was fifth overall ahead of the similar Holdens of Tim Rouse and Shawn Jamieson while a great second session by Roger Patterson elevated his AU to eighth – in front of Peter Dane and Malcolm Niall, also in AU’s.

Outside the top ten came Paul Fiore (VN Commodore), Matt Lovell (EA Falcon), an engine troubled AU of Scott Nicolas, and Brett Niall and Brad Fox also in the new Fords.

Saloon Cars was developed around Falcon EA’s and Commodore VN’s before the late 2004 proposal to move to later model AU’s and VT’s. Heinrich has won the title twice and is the current champion while Harvey won the series in 2004.

Television coverage of round five will air on SBS – Speedweek – Sunday August 27 and of Fox Sports at a time to be advised. For more information about the Supaloc Australian Saloon Car Championship visit www.tascco.com.au.
