Rose blooms for final truck qualifying PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 03 November 2007

After a fluctuating qualifying session where the Biodiesel Australian SuperTrucks managed to dodge the showers at Oran Park yeaterday, Ben Rose emerged with pole position for the opening race of the fifth and final round of the National Series.

In the most competitive outing of the year for the heavy hitting big rigs, four trucks jostled for the top position on the time sheets. Firstly it was series leader Bob Middleton in his Cat Freightliner that showed the way. Then Daniel Bajema jumped to the top of the queue in his Kenworth before the similarly mounted Steve Zammit took a turn.

Light Truck driver Steve Coulter (Isuzu) has pushed the 12 and 14 litre trucks in his 6.5 litre unit and Oran Park was no exception. Coulter managed to get up to second at one stage before finishing fourth overall. At the end though, Rose posted a 55.6483 second time that would not be headed.

Zammit was ultimately second one tenth of a second adrift while Bajema was another half a second away in third. Coulter finished fourth only one hundredth of a second behind while Middleton was a disappointing fifth. After missing the last round at Mallala, Beau Hewat (Kenworth) was next ahead of the fast Kenworth of John Bomberle while Frank Amoroso had his Kenworth ahead of the Isuzus of Michael Seton and Colin De Gee.
Stan Seton and Craig Yardy followed in their Isuzus while Matt Aaron’s Isuzu was sidelined early in the 15 minute session, so too Col Lovett (Volvo) and Rogert O’Connor’s Diamond Reo.

In the Co-Drivers stakes Lovett and Rose simply swapped Volvos and the former netted pole over his team mate. Last round winner John Falk put the Amoroso Kenworth on the second row, inside Peter Hewat, fresh from shoulder surgery as the Isuzus of Hayden Pullen, Paul Reyntjes, Ben Falk and Lynden Watson completed the line up.
