While the 2007 Shannons Australian Production Car Championship may be almost in the bag, the fight for the minor honours will be on in earnest following yesterday’s qualifying at Oran Park Raceway west of Sydney. Sydney’s Garry Holt, the man poised to collect this year’s crown, was the fastest in the 20 minute session ahead of BMW 335i Turbo team mate Barry Morcom.
Next fastest behind the Class SP pair was Class A’s Steve Briffa in the Paul Wakeling Holden Commodore from class rivals Chris Delfsma (Century 21 Ford Falcon XR8) and Allan Shephard (Thrifty Mazda 3 MPS). The Class A Trophy Falcon XR8 of Matt Brady followed just ahead of James Parish’s Class SP Trophy Mazda RX7.
The best of the smaller engined cars was Kean Booker in the Thrifty Toyota Celica, half a second up on David Guigni in the Class B winning Mini Cooper S of Trevor Keene while Michael Gray overcame gearbox issues and run off the track to have the Class C Toyota Echo tenth. Yound Garth Duffy didn’t get to turn a lap due to a broken gearbox in the Class B Trophy BMW 323i.
